  1. a Bachelor degree in Pharmacy with at least Second Class Honours or


  2. the degree of Master of Pharmacy or


  3. the degree of Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Technology with at least Second Class Honours or


  4. a Bachelor degree with at least Second Class Honours in any other area of study which the Board deems to be relevant, or the degree of Doctor of Medicine and Surgery obtained at least two years prior to registration in the Course, or the degree of Bachelor of Dental Surgery or


  5. the degree of Master of Dental Surgery awarded from July 2018 onwards or


  6. a Bachelor degree in Pharmacy or in any other area which the Board deems to be relevant, obtained with Third Class Honours, if they are also in possession of other qualifications, including relevant experience, obtained following the first cycle degree.

The course aims to prepare you as an eventual graduate with the skills to handle data and scientific writing, and to provide an opportunity for specialisation in one of five areas; Hospital Pharmacy, Pharmacoeconomics, Industrial Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Regulatory Sciences, and Pharmacy Administration and Marketing. In your final year, you will be able to demonstrate your knowledge through a placement unit and by carrying out a dissertation with a topic of your choice.

** Work on the dissertation is expected to start in Semester 2 of academic year 2025-26 and continues up to the end of the third year.

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2021 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of Master of Science in Pharmacy under the auspices of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Identify factors that influence effectiveness, safety and rational use of medicines.
  • Participate and lead policy-making decisions in the fields of hospital pharmacy, Pharmacoeconomics, industrial pharmacy, pharmaceutical regulatory affairs, pharmacovigilance and Qualified Persons Requirements.
  • Conduct literature review and adopt appropriate referencing techniques.
  • Develop scholarly reports and dissemination of research results by adopting academic writing skills.
  • Establish a pattern for reflective analysis and gap analysis to identify weaknesses, and opportunities in developing and restricting pharmaceutical processes.
